The capital city’s budget was not covered by the stopgap funding in March.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said he intends to hold a vote passing $1 billion for the budget of the District of Columbia.
The district’s budget is approved by Congress, but when the House passed stopgap funding in March, they inadvertently left out the authorization to allow D.C. to spend its own locally raised tax dollars until the end of the fiscal year in the legislation’s writing. This has resulted in a sudden shortfall in funding for the District of Columbia, which federal leaders, including President Donald Trump, has called on the lower chamber to rectify.
“I talked to the mayor and told her that we would do it as quickly as possible,” Speaker Johnson said this week. “Reconciliation has taken all of our energy right now, but we’re not delaying this for some political purpose or any intentionality. It’s just a matter of schedule, even at this point.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Speaker Johnson as he oversees legislative votes and budget reconciliation.
- For members of the House as they prepare the funding bill that advances President Trump’s agenda.
